As Founder and Principal for Growth Canvas Consulting LLC, Mike develops and deploys successful go-to-market strategies that help technology, training and education organizations stay trusted and top of mind. He is passionate about building strong brands and helping organizations position their solutions to stand out from the crowd. He excels at launching new products, entering new markets, and using quantitative and qualitative research to spot emerging shifts in buyer and user needs and expectations.
Mike has spent more than 20 years helping digital publishing organizations to create new avenues for growth and to achieve greater impact in a rapidly changing landscape. He was the Director of International Marketing at Thomson (Gale) and Executive Director, Marketing and Strategic Initiatives at ProQuest. Most recently, he stepped in to offer strategic marketing guidance and support to ITHAKA for their Books @ JSTOR, Portico, and Artstor solutions. While at ProQuest, Mike led the North America academic marketing team and orchestrated product launches generating seven figure revenues and double-digit revenue growth. He also managed a companywide enterprise strategy project that helped ProQuest secure a new equity investor. At Thomson (Gale), Mike led an award-winning international marketing team that generated 4x growth outside the US and Canada over 5 years while successfully integrating four major acquisitions.
Mike holds an MA from The American University and a BA from University of Vermont. He has moderated and participated in sessions at the Society for Scholarly Publishing, The Charleston Conference, Ed Tech Industry Summit, and Computers in Libraries. He was on the Postsecondary Education Board of Directors for the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) and has judged several digital product categories for SIIA’s CODIE Awards
