Maverick Publishing Specialists Ltd., are delighted to announce the addition of five new Senior Consultants to their team of worldwide Industry experts, further strengthening their ability to offer in-depth and wide-ranging strategic and operational support for all their existing and potential clients.
In EMEA, they have been fortunate to add 4 new Affiliates.
Jigisha Patel – Research Integrity, Publishing and Editorial Formerly a medical doctor and academic, Jigisha joins Maverick as Affiliate Senior Associate, Research Integrity after 13 years in scholarly publishing developing expertise in this specialist area. She led the first Research Integrity Group (a team dedicated to maintaining research integrity standards), at BioMed Central and then helped to establish a similar group at Springer Nature. Jigisha’s skills range from manuscript handling and editorial decision making through to training, policy formulation, project management, research, writing and strategic thinking. She uses her experience to create and deliver strategies that help to manage, prevent and detect current research and publication misconduct and emerging trends. |
Mark Purvis – Open Access, Publishing and Editorial Mark has 30 years’ experience in scholarly and b2b publishing, with particular expertise in addressing challenging and changing markets. Most recently, he focused on finding solutions to the challenges of Open Access as the OA lead at IOP Publishing. Here he gained experience in a broad range of open access business models, including consortia models (e.g. SCOAP3) and transformative agreements. He launched a new portfolio of fully gold OA journals and played a major role in IOP’s OA and open data policy development. His broader publishing and editorial support experience and background includes STM journal editing and peer review management at Elsevier, followed by 15+ years building their magazine and newsletter publishing division, including its transition to digital publication. |
Craig Santus – Content, Technology and Project Management Again, with over 30 years hands-on and senior management experience in Publishing, Craigs technology and content related expertise includes roles at The Economist and Elsevier Science in design, production, business process workflow optimisation, project and programme management. He has also consulted with a number of organisations such as United Business Media (Informa), Time Inc, The Houses of Parliament and The British Museum on business transformation, change management and technology implementation projects. His most recent role was with Pearson Education as VP Content Solutions, managing a publishing specialist team across three continents. He led key initiatives in content management, accessibility and anti-piracy – and built an offshore (India based) team to optimise onshore / offshore resource balancing. |
Simon Bewick – Market Research, Marketing Strategy and Marketing Communications Simon Bewick has over 25 years’ experience in publishing sector sales and marketing, including ten years as Direct Marketing Manager, then another ten as Global Head of Digital Marketing for Oxford University Press. He has extensive knowledge of the strategic planning, analysis, and delivery of fully integrated marketing campaigns, utilising both Digital and Direct Marketing methodologies. He has delivered large-scale CRM strategic reviews and implementations; “web vision” strategies; and over a hundred global sales and marketing related projects including brand management, thought leadership and customer acquisition and retention. Alongside publishing, he has also consulted for a wide range of companies including Educational Service providers, Tech companies, Entertainment / Music companies, and numerous “start-ups”. |
And in America, David Saracco has joined the US Maverick team.
David Saracco – Content, Technology, Platform and Product Development Starting his career as co-owner of a successful multimedia start-up, Target Media, David entered publishing at Harcourt Health Sciences and then Elsevier, helping imprints such as W.B Saunders, Churchill Livingstone, and Mosby medical publishing to strategize and implement their electronic publishing. He conceptualized, designed, and produced a wide variety of electronic programs, and at Elsevier, also built a team of 40 producers, product managers, and technologists who developed over 500 new electronic products per year including electronic assessment programs, educational interactive products, websites, custom portals and platforms, LMS courseware, PDA delivered content and eBooks. After Elsevier, David worked for platform provider and development company Impelsys, and was responsible for global publishing relationships, strategy, sales, and client services to publishers across all market sectors. He has also held senior and vice president positions with other vendor companies such as CodeMantra, RSI Publishing Solutions, and Vantage Labs AI. He helps Publishers set both digital roadmap and electronic product strategies and has helped develop and implement a wide range of electronic platforms including Artificial Intelligence, SaaS eBook platforms, DAM + DAD systems and Component Content Management Solutions. |
