Demystifying Open Science – Panel Discussion

A Maverick Panel Discussion

Open science along with open data, open access, transparency, and collaboration, are widely discussed concepts central to research in scholarly publishing. The idea that research can be made more effective through Open Science has strong appeal. With governments, funders, organizations, and researchers in favor of establishing open science practices, there are implications reaching across most functions of organizations and it can seem a bit overwhelming at times.

Maverick has assembled a team of experts to demystify open science and help publishers confront both its inherent challenges and opportunities. Moderated by Maverick CEO, Rebecca Rinehart, our panel discussion explores open science and open data from the business, operational, and cultural perspectives.

Each participant represents a different aspect of the issue, but all converge on the theme of adding value to the research process and the scientific literature, the need for collaboration and education, and overcoming barriers. The panelists discuss practical solutions and insights into operationalizing open science to the benefit of the entire community.

Perspectives are provided by Ruth King, Senior Associate, Open Science, Maverick Publishing Specialists; Michelle Urberg, PhD, MSLIS, Affiliate Associate, Maverick Publishing Specialists; Nancy Roberts, PhD, Head of Technology & Content, Maverick Publishing Specialists.
